The president of the Polish Personal Data Protection Authority (UODO) spoke at a conference on the importance of protecting patient data in the context of increasing digitization of the health sector.

On September 15, 2026, at the conference "GDPR in Health Protection" organized by the Pomorze Hospitals S.A. company, the president of the UODO emphasized that the digitization of the medical sector must integrate data protection to preserve patient trust. He recalled that health data are particularly sensitive and that their unlawful use can harm privacy and dignity. He also stressed the need to impose high technical requirements on entities processing medical data on a large scale on behalf of controllers, a request that was formally addressed to the Minister of Digitization.

The authority also recalled its various actions taken in 2026 to strengthen the protection of health data. These include organizing a conference on the European Health Data Space (EHDS), publishing an opinion on the legal bases for invitations to screening examinations, as well as conducting training sessions for health professionals. In the same context, the UODO recommended that sector actors refer to approved sectoral codes of conduct, notably those for small medical structures and for the health sector in general.
