The Polish authority organizes a meeting on the code of conduct for the media

The Polish Personal Data Protection Office (UODO) held a meeting with media representatives to discuss the creation of a sectoral code of conduct aimed at facilitating the application of the GDPR.

At the initiative of the regional radios of Polish Radio, this approach aims to clarify certain requirements of the regulation, notably concerning the right to be forgotten, data security, and their disclosure in publications. The authority recalled the sector's difficulties by mentioning an administrative pecuniary sanction imposed on Radio Szczecin S.A., a decision confirmed by the Warsaw Voivodeship Administrative Court. The UODO specified that its role is advisory, with the initiative to define the scope and content of the code belonging to the organization representing the controllers or processors.

The draft code, after public consultation, is submitted for the authority's approval, which simultaneously accredits a supervisory body. UODO representatives emphasized that members of already approved codes demonstrate better compliance, with fewer complaints and data breach notifications recorded against them. It was advised to focus initially on a few essential areas for the sector, with the code able to be extended later to facilitate its development. The meeting concluded with a declaration to continue collaboration.
