The Polish data protection authority (UODO) highlighted the growing convergence between personal data protection and consumer protection, especially in the face of practices such as profiling and deceptive interfaces.

At the Digital Economy Forum, the UODO vice-president explained that although data protection and consumer protection fall under distinct legal regimes, they form a unique ecosystem in the digital economy. The same practice, such as deceptive interfaces ("dark patterns"), can be analyzed from two perspectives. From the consumer law perspective, the issue concerns manipulation of purchasing decisions and the fairness of the practice. Under the GDPR perspective, the analysis focuses on the free and informed nature of consent, respect for the transparency principle, and the individual's ability to exercise their rights.

The vice-president also emphasized the importance of cooperation between regulatory authorities, citing existing collaboration with the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) and the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE). He expressed the wish to establish a similar cooperation model with the new Commission for the Development and Security of Artificial Intelligence (KRiBSI). Such collaboration aims to provide greater legal predictability for businesses, avoiding contradictory signals and unifying guidelines, while simplifying procedures for citizens.
