The Norwegian government seeks stricter regulation of smart glasses

The Norwegian government has announced the creation of a group of experts tasked with proposing stricter regulation for emerging technologies such as smart glasses.

This decision, announced by the Minister of Digitization, follows the recommendations of the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) and the Consumer Council. The Authority's director welcomed this initiative, stating that the uncertainty of being filmed or analyzed by these devices infringes on privacy and freedom of expression in public spaces. The expert group will be required to quickly formulate regulatory proposals for glasses, headphones, and other devices equipped with cameras and artificial intelligence, which will then be submitted for consultation. The minister also invited the public and private sectors to develop their own internal guidelines on the use of these technologies.
