The Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) has communicated about the situation of individuals discovering themselves registered as members of religious and philosophical communities without their knowledge.

The authority has been contacted by individuals who found their registration was not consented to and reminds that such membership cannot be recorded without the action of the person concerned or another valid legal basis. To verify their status, citizens can log in to the "My Page" section of the Brønnøysund registers and consult the "Religious and Philosophical Communities. Show registered memberships" section, although this list is not updated in real time. In case of unwanted registration, it is recommended to contact the organization to request the deletion of data and information on the basis of the registration. Communities have a one-month period to respond, and in case of no response or refusal, the situation can be reported to Datatilsynet, which will use this information to assess possible future actions.
