The Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) has published a report on the use of an artificial intelligence assistant for drafting reports in child protection services.

This report, resulting from a project conducted in its regulatory "sandbox" with the municipalities of Kongsvinger, Stange, and Ringsaker, analyzes a tool that records interviews, transcribes them, and then generates a draft report. The authority concludes that this processing can be lawful under the GDPR and the Child Protection Act, justified by the extent of investigations and documentation delays. However, this legality is conditional on several safeguards: the trust of participants is essential, as a deterrent effect would make the tool inappropriate. It is also recommended to delete the audio recording after transcription, and the transcription after the finalization of the report. Finally, municipalities must clearly inform individuals and establish a procedure to manage objections.
