The Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) announces the publication of a report resulting from its regulatory sandbox, concerning the use of artificial intelligence for transcription in child protection services.

This project, conducted in collaboration with the municipalities of Kongsvinger, Stange, and Ringsaker, explored the conditions for using speech-to-text transcription tools while ensuring the privacy and legal security of citizens. The resulting report presents the main findings of this experiment, which are considered transferable to other sectors handling sensitive data such as health or human resources. It notably addresses the necessary prior assessments, the balance between data minimization, retention, and practical utility, as well as the impact of these technologies on legal security and the perception by the data subjects.
