The Norwegian authority launches an investigation into health data collection by insurance companies
The Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) has initiated an inspection of the insurance sector regarding the collection of health data.
This action follows several complaints received over recent years concerning insurers' practices in collecting health information from policyholders during the processing of personal insurance claims. The investigation aims to verify whether companies have adequate procedures to ensure that the collection of such sensitive data is limited to what is strictly necessary, in accordance with the strict rules governing their processing. In this context, eight insurance companies have been contacted: STOREBRAND LIVSFORSIKRING ASA, FREMTIND FORSIKRING AS, GJENSIDIGE FORSIKRING ASA, FRENDE LIVSFORSIKRING AS, NORDEA LIV FORSIKRING AS, KLP SKADEFORSIKRING AS, TRYG FORSIKRING NUF, and IF LIVSFORSIKRING NUF. A response is expected from them before September 4.
