New Approaches for Human/AI Collaboration in the Work of the Future

The European Commission has launched a call for proposals under the Horizon Europe (HORIZON) programme aimed at developing new approaches for collaboration between humans and artificial intelligence (AI) in the industrial sector.

The call, opened on 13 October 2026, aims to transform industrial jobs by improving flexibility, inclusion, and upskilling. Submitted projects must cover at least two of the following areas: human-AI co-learning and knowledge capture, teamwork through natural interaction models, or interfaces adapting to human needs, including different abilities and cultures. Proposals must integrate a gender perspective, avoid any discrimination, and address potential biases of AI systems. Legal entities established in China are not eligible to participate.

A first strand, HORIZON-CL4-2027-02-DIGITAL-EMERGING-52-two-stage, concerns Research and Innovation Actions (RIA) with a total budget of €30,000,000. About 5 projects are expected to be funded, with individual contributions ranging from €4,000,000 to €6,000,000.

A second strand, HORIZON-CL4-2027-02-MAT-PROD-32-two-stage, concerns Innovation Actions (IA) and has a budget of €52,500,000. About 6 projects will be funded, with contributions ranging from €7,000,000 to €9,000,000 each. For both calls, submission deadlines are set for 2 February 2027 and 2 September 2027, and projects must aim for a final technology readiness level (TRL) of 6.
