The Korean authority shares experiences of using pseudonymized data and supports planning of new research and projects
The South Korean Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) announced the holding of a results-sharing meeting on the use of pseudonymized information, aimed at supporting organizations in their research and development projects.
Scheduled for October 28, 2026, this meeting aims to facilitate the development of new projects by sharing feedback on the use of pseudonymized information. Research organizations such as the Korean Society of Highways and Transportation and the Immigration Policy Research Institute will present their work in various fields such as road safety, social issues, health, and education. They will discuss the difficulties encountered in obtaining data and the assistance received through the support scheme.
Data providers, such as the Gyeonggi Provincial Office and the Seoul Housing and Urban Development Corporation, will also share their practical experience in preparing and providing data. Additionally, two use cases from the Seoul Pseudonymized Information Utilization Support Center will be detailed, concerning a study on risk factors for precancerous gastric lesions and the development of an artificial intelligence algorithm. The Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) will present the modalities of the support scheme, with the PIPC stating its intention to "actively support the secure use of pseudonymized information for policy research and service development."
