The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) of South Korea organized the 4th simulated trial competition on personal data protection, focusing on the challenges posed by artificial intelligence.

This event, held on August 27, was themed "The protection and use of personal data in the era of artificial intelligence." The debates addressed issues such as the attribution of responsibility for autonomous processing by an agentic artificial intelligence, the qualification of personal data for erroneous sensitive information inferred or generated by AI, as well as international data transfers in the context of service improvement. Out of 54 initial teams, 8 finalists received support from experts from major Korean companies and leading law firms to refine their arguments.

At the end of the competition, teams in the "law school students" and "university students" categories were awarded. The PIPC emphasized that this initiative allowed participants to demonstrate their legal skills in the face of new technologies and to raise public awareness about the importance of secure data processing in the AI era. The chairperson of the commission expressed her belief that the participants will become key actors in data and artificial intelligence governance.
