The ICO becomes the Information Commission from 30 September 2026
The UK data protection authority, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), has confirmed its name change to become the Information Commission from 30 September 2026.
This transition results from the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, which changes the governance structure of the organization while maintaining its regulatory functions and responsibilities. This development follows the appointment in July of seven non-executive members to the new Board of the Information Commission, who will take office on 30 September. The implementation is enacted by the 2026 Regulations on the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 (Commencement No. 9 and transitional and saving provisions).
