The Hungarian authority celebrates International Freedom of Information Day 2026 with honorary distinctions

The Hungarian National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH) communicated on several actions carried out within the framework of the International Day for Universal Access to Information.

On October 1, 2026, the authority awarded a silver commemorative medal to an individual for their activity in the project KÖFOP-2.2.6-VEKOP-18-2019-00001, conducted from 2019 to 2022, aiming to "map the national practice of freedom of information and increase its effectiveness." This distinction also rewards their contribution within the Anti-Corruption Working Group for the promotion of transparency and access to information of public interest.

The authority also participated in the renegotiation and implementation of milestone no. 87 of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), finalizing a report during summer 2026 after review by the European Commission. Additionally, the NAIH contributed to the written notification for the conditionality procedure related to corrective measure no. 17. This mission included negotiation on the Central Register of Public Information Data, review of the legislation and associated NAVÜ documents, as well as drafting a report on the transparency authority's procedure.

Finally, the staff members of the NAIH Freedom of Information Department received a commendation from the president and bronze commemorative medals in recognition of their work on these missions.
