The Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) has partnered with several other public entities to provide recommendations on preventing and managing data breaches.

In collaboration with the National Security Authority (NSM), the Police, and the Directorate for Digitisation, the authority has centralized practical advice on the platform sikkert.no. These measures aim to help individuals, businesses, and public bodies prevent cyberattacks or respond in case of an incident. The guide reminds that when a data breach involves personal data, it constitutes a personal data security breach. The concerned businesses and public bodies must then assess the risk to individuals and determine whether the incident must be notified to Datatilsynet. It is also reminded that individuals can report to the authority any organization they believe has committed a fault in managing a personal data breach.
