The Finnish data protection authority has opened an ex officio investigation regarding the legality of videos published by a content creator on social networks, which film third parties without their knowledge.

The investigation targets the activities of the content creator "Kotkamies," who broadcasts hidden camera videos on platforms such as YouTube and TikTok. On September 2, the authority sent a request for clarifications to the person managing the account. This request concerns the legal basis for the processing of personal data for the publication of the videos and the modalities for implementing the rights of the data subjects. The authority also seeks to determine whether the filmed individuals were transparently informed about the processing of their data and whether they had the opportunity to request the deletion of publications in which they are identifiable. The outcome of the procedure will depend on the information collected.
