The European Commission has presented its AI Innovation Package, aimed at strengthening the European artificial intelligence ecosystem by supporting startups, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and researchers.

This initiative seeks to promote the development of trustworthy AI, in line with European regulations and values, by improving access to supercomputing resources, innovation, and high-quality data. It establishes AI Factories, which use Europe's high-performance computing infrastructure to develop advanced AI models. The package also sets up the European AI Office, a center of expertise for AI policy and governance, and launches the GenAI4EU initiative to promote generative AI applications in key sectors such as health, industry, and mobility.

Access to open data is a central element of this strategy, with the Commission planning to develop European common data spaces to expand the availability of quality datasets. The goal is to enable innovators to train, test, and improve AI systems, thereby fostering more transparent and reliable solutions. Platforms like the European Data Portal are highlighted as resources to develop AI applications while promoting accountability and trust.
