The European Cybersecurity Month highlights online risks and the importance of open data for security
The European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) has published its Threat Landscape 2026 report, analyzing the main online risks observed in 2025.
The report, published on 22 September, identifies ransomware as the most significant threat, with the public administration sector being the most targeted. Cyber activists continue to use distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks to overwhelm websites, while artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly used to support attacks, notably phishing messages. The document highlights that open data, accessible via the European Data Portal, can improve public understanding of risks and strengthen digital resilience in Europe.
