The Estonian authority launches a public consultation on updating the guide for publishing payment incident data

The Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate (AKI) has launched a public consultation regarding the update of its guide on publishing data related to payment defaults.

The draft guide aims to clarify the rights and obligations related to the publication and use of data on payment incidents. It emphasizes the need to balance the assessment of individuals' creditworthiness for contractual decisions with the protection of their privacy and personal data. The publication of such information must be justified and not cause excessive harm to individuals. The document is addressed to creditors, payment incident register managers, data subjects, as well as companies consulting this data. The authority invites all stakeholders to submit their comments on the content, clarity, and practical aspects of the draft before 15 November 2026.
