The EDPS Newsletter Number 22 Provides an Update on Human Oversight of Automated Decisions, Digital Identity, and International Cooperation on Data Protection

The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) has communicated on its recent activities concerning the oversight of automated decisions, digital identity, and international cooperation on data protection.

The EDPS has made available a new checklist intended for European Union (EU) institutions. This tool allows them to self-assess the maturity level of their human oversight measures applied to automated decisions. The objective is to strengthen control over these processes.

The authority has also focused on the topic of digital identity. Discussions covered subjects such as driving licenses on phones and the use of algorithms for visa application processing, as well as the associated data protection challenges.

Finally, the EDPS reported on its participation in a series of international meetings. These aimed to deepen cooperation at the highest level on data protection standards, notably in connection with artificial intelligence (AI) in Europe.
