Debate on Digitization, Automation, and Data Protection in Polish Public Administrations

The Polish data protection authority (UODO) participated in a debate on the challenges of digitizing public administration, particularly regarding data protection and business continuity.
At the 24th Forum of Local Government Capital and Finance in Katowice, the vice-president of the UODO took part in a discussion entitled "Digital Administration – Which Development Direction to Take?". The exchanges focused on the challenges of digital transformation of public services, including the role of automation, the need to preserve human decision-making, and the inherent risks to data protection. Particular attention was given to the resilience of administrations in the face of system failures or cyberattacks, questioning the existence of effective business continuity procedures. Poland's delay in digitization and the impact of deploying the electronic document management system (EZD RP) were also discussed.
