The Croatian authority explains the data controller's responsibility for cookies and GDPR compliance
The Croatian Personal Data Protection Agency (AZOP) has reminded that the owner of a website is the data controller of the data collected through cookies.
In response to an inquiry regarding the use of cookies, the authority clarified that the owner of a website is, in principle, the data controller. It is therefore their responsibility to ensure the compliance of the processing of personal data carried out through that site. This clarification was made in a context where the site designer had implemented the cookie notice, raising the question of the allocation of responsibilities.
