The Commission holds a special meeting of the scientific panel on the safety and risks of advanced AI
The European Commission held a special meeting of its scientific group on advanced artificial intelligence (AI) to review recommendations on the safety and security of these technologies.
This group, composed of 60 independent experts, advises the European Union AI Office and national authorities on topics such as systemic risks and cross-border market surveillance. Following recent loss-of-control incidents, the group collaborated with the AI Office to develop questions for companies that developed the models concerned. The Executive Vice-President for Technological Sovereignty, Security and Democracy emphasized that "the European Union has the world's first law addressing the systemic risk of AI, and we need cutting-edge scientific input." She added that Europe can play a leading role in ensuring safe AI through a robust legal framework and the support of top scientific experts.
