The National Commission on Informatics and Liberty (CNIL) is organizing an event on November 16, 2026, on the ethical issues related to political communications and digital interference during electoral periods.

This event, part of CNIL's mission on the ethical challenges of digital technology, will address the protection of voters' rights and opinion manipulation. The first roundtable will discuss the protection of voters against political targeting, recalling the obligations arising from the GDPR and the Data Protection Act, such as consent and data minimization. It will also cover the October 2025 regulation on transparency in political advertising. A second roundtable will focus on combating disinformation and foreign interference, with representatives from VIGINUM (the vigilance and protection service against foreign digital interference) and the Audiovisual and Digital Communication Regulatory Authority (Arcom), and will discuss the increased risks posed by generative artificial intelligences. A testimony will also be given on manipulations during the 2024 Romanian presidential election.
