The European Commission has published a call for proposals under the Digital Europe programme, aiming to fund the deployment of cybersecurity tools and technologies based on artificial intelligence.
The objective is to provide national authorities and entities subject to the Network and Information Security Directive 2 (NIS 2) with enhanced operational capabilities to analyse, detect and prevent cyber threats. Projects must develop artificial intelligence solutions, including generative AI, to automate processes such as the creation and analysis of cyber threat intelligence (CTI). Particular emphasis is placed on the security of AI systems themselves and compliance with the Union's legislative framework, including the AI Act, intellectual property rights and the GDPR, especially when processing information.
The proposed actions must cover aspects such as anomaly detection, incident response, vulnerability identification or data anonymisation to enable information sharing. In this context, the call for proposals "Cybersecurity tools, technologies and services based on AI (CYBERAI)" has a budget of €15,000,000. It aims to fund around 4 projects, with grants ranging from €3,000,000 to €5,000,000. The submission period for proposals runs from 1 September 2026 to 14 January 2027.
