The British authority warns against fraudulent messages claiming access to personal data
The British data protection authority, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), has issued a statement containing recommendations for individuals receiving messages from alleged hackers.
The authority advises recipients of such messages to remain vigilant and not to click on suspicious links or attachments. To change a password, it is recommended to log in directly to the account via the official website or application. The ICO also recommends monitoring any unusual activity on bank accounts and online services, and never to disclose personal or financial information in response to unexpected contact. Finally, the use of strong and unique passwords as well as enabling multi-factor authentication are reiterated as essential security measures.
