The President of the Spanish Authority Inaugurates a Course on Artificial Intelligence Governance and Data Protection at the University of La Coruña

The Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) inaugurated a summer course on data protection, corporate governance, risk management, and compliance in complex technological environments.

During the course inauguration at the University of La Coruña on July 15 and 16, 2026, the president of the AEPD emphasized that artificial intelligence represents an irreversible new technological era requiring strong governance. He stressed that organizations must protect their information, one of their main assets, beyond mere regulatory compliance. According to him, technological innovation loses its legitimacy if it does not respect fundamental rights, and AI governance is a shared responsibility that demands the involvement of all institutions as well as a particular commitment from companies.

The course, which gathered more than 150 participants over two days, covers topics such as regulatory trends in AI, the responsibility of governing bodies, risk management, data breaches, the role of data protection officers, and the integration of data protection into corporate compliance systems.
