The United Kingdom Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has fined KRA Consultancy Ltd £300,000 (approximately €354,000) for sending 5,575,715 unlawful direct marketing text messages between April 2022 and May 2025.
These messages, which generated over 60,000 complaints, targeted financially vulnerable individuals by offering debt management solutions. The company aggravated its breaches by sending false bailiff threats under the identifier "DEMAND" to induce recipients to respond out of fear. The investigation demonstrated the deliberate nature of the infringements, with the company attempting to make its messages untraceable and continuing its illicit activities even after searches. No verification of consent or data accuracy had been conducted. In addition to the financial penalty, the ICO issued an injunction ordering KRA Consultancy Ltd to cease all marketing messages without consent within 30 days. The company was also not registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
