The Maltese data protection authority (IDPC) organized an awareness conference on data protection and journalistic ethics for students.

This intervention, conducted by legal advisers from the authority at the Maltese College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST), aimed to raise awareness among future media professionals. The session focused on balancing data protection, privacy, freedom of expression, and freedom of the press, based on the relevant provisions of the GDPR. Practical aspects of journalism, national complaint and investigation procedures, as well as the daily responsibilities of media professionals were illustrated through case studies and concrete scenarios to reconcile the protection of fundamental rights with responsible journalism.
