The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) of South Korea organized a visit to the Jeonnam-Gwangju region to discuss innovation and data use in the era of artificial intelligence, particularly in the medical sector.

On July 2, 2026, the president of the PIPC met with companies, institutions, and researchers in the medical artificial intelligence and health sector at the Gwangju Technopark. Discussions focused on the challenges encountered in data use for research and development. Participants notably suggested simplifying the procedures for processing and combining pseudonymized data, creating a new support center for their use, and expanding consulting services for regional actors.

The visit also covered the "Personal Information Innovation Zone" at the Technopark, a secure space intended for data analysis for medical research, in collaboration with local hospitals. Finally, the president inspected the National Artificial Intelligence Data Center, managed by the Artificial Intelligence Convergence Industry Group (AICA), to assess the state of infrastructures. The PIPC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting reliable and responsible data use.
