The South Korean Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC), in collaboration with the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), has launched a demonstration project aimed at establishing the technical infrastructure for the right to data portability, called "MyData," in the employment and education sectors.

Initiated on July 14, 2026, this project is part of the gradual expansion of the right for an individual to request the transfer of their personal information to a third party, which will be extended in 2026 to the energy, culture, and leisure sectors, in addition to employment and education. Entrusted to the Koscom consortium with the support of the Korean Employment Information Service and Chonnam and Hanyang universities, it aims to test the transfer of application and academic record data. The demonstration will cover the entire process, including authentication and standardization, to ensure the stability and reliability of the system before its deployment. A "System Construction Guide for the Employment and Education Sectors" will be provided to data controllers to reduce their development burden and ensure secure data use.
