The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) of South Korea organized an international webinar on privacy protection policies related to artificial intelligence.

This first webinar, intended for members of the Artificial Intelligence Working Group (AIWG) and the International Enforcement Working Group (IEWG) of the Global Privacy Assembly (GPA), brought together on June 30 representatives from South Korea, the United Kingdom, Croatia, Brazil, and Ghana. The objective was to share national experiences and strengthen the capacities of supervisory authorities in facing AI challenges. Discussions focused on legislative trends, regulatory sandbox mechanisms, and cases of secure AI adoption. A second session is planned to address AI-related investigations and sanctions.

The PIPC presented its own initiatives, including its "Privacy Risk Management Model for Artificial Intelligence" and its "Guidelines for the Development and Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence." The authority also shared its experience in supporting innovation, such as the establishment of a regulatory sandbox for the development of AI to prevent voice phishing. Finally, it mentioned the upcoming introduction of a "special exemption for artificial intelligence" as part of a revision of the Personal Information Protection Act, currently under parliamentary review, to facilitate the secure use of data for AI development.
