The South Korean authority, the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC), has established its 3rd Personal Data Policy Evaluation Committee and held its first meeting on July 6, 2026.

This committee is composed of 30 external experts from the academic, legal, industrial, and civil society sectors, divided into 5 specialized subcommittees. Its mission is to comprehensively evaluate the privacy policies published by organizations to verify their compliance with legislation, their adequacy with actual data processing practices, and their clarity for the exercise of data subjects' rights. The 2026 evaluation will cover 52 services across 7 sectors, including public applications, universities, recruitment platforms, dating services, foreign luxury brands, fandom platforms, and restaurant franchises. The procedure will consist of a document review of the policies, supplemented by a verification of their effective implementation. Based on the results, the PIPC will identify best practices and notify areas for improvement to the concerned entities to encourage voluntary compliance, reserving the possibility to issue formal recommendations.
