G7 authorities agree on key principles for the protection of minors and emerging technologies

At the invitation of the National Commission on Informatics and Liberty (CNIL), the data protection authorities of the G7 countries adopted common principles on emerging technologies and the protection of minors.
Meeting in Paris on June 25 and 26, 2026, the authorities exchanged views on the protection of minors online, emerging technologies, free flow of data, and enforcement cooperation. Discussions also addressed the challenges of connected glasses and agentic artificial intelligence, particularly regarding cybersecurity and automated decision-making. These efforts resulted in the adoption of a declaration on privacy-respecting age verification mechanisms and a document on the responsible use of connected home devices for the protection of minors' data. The next roundtable will be held in 2027 in the United States, under the chairmanship of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
