The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has called for the establishment of a clear legal basis for information sharing between regulators and discussed ways to strengthen the enforcement of the GDPR.

During a meeting in Dublin on 16 and 17 July 2026, the EDPB emphasized the need for effective cooperation among EU regulators and requested the European Commission to propose a legal basis for the exchange of information, including confidential data, between regulatory authorities from different sectors. The EDPB Chair stated that this measure aims to remove obstacles to cooperation and improve enforcement outcomes as well as regulatory consistency.

The EDPB also addressed the increasing pressure on data protection authorities' resources, due to the rise in number and complexity of complaints, notably related to artificial intelligence. To strengthen cross-border enforcement of the GDPR, the board discussed practical solutions such as pooling resources and organizing workshops on national enforcement procedures, in anticipation of the future regulation on procedure. Finally, the EDPB committed to continuing actions stemming from the 2025 Helsinki Declaration to improve its guidance and dialogue with stakeholders.
