The president of the Polish data protection authority (UODO) intervened in the Polish Senate during a debate on the protection of children and young people in cyberspace, highlighting the multiple threats and the need for enhanced protection.

He recalled that the protection of minors' data is an element of protecting their dignity, privacy, security, and mental health. He emphasized the risks of cyberspace such as profiling, manipulation, cyberviolence, identity theft, and loss of control over their own image. The GDPR recognizes children as persons requiring special protection because they are less aware of dangers and their rights. Sensitive data such as those related to health, disability, family situation, or psychological development must be subject to increased protection.

To illustrate the scale of the challenge, he cited that more than 1.4 million children aged 7 to 12 actively use the internet and that more than 930,000 children aged 7 to 14 have already visited a pornographic site. He also warned about the dangers related to deepfakes and the publication of children's images by schools for promotional purposes, stating that "restraint in its dissemination should be the rule." The president also mentioned cases of unauthorized access to electronic class registers reported to the authority. Finally, he referred to the educational program "Your Data – Your Business," ongoing since 2009, which aims to raise awareness among young people and teachers.
