The Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL) and the National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology (Inria) have awarded their 2026 privacy protection prize to an international team of researchers.
Their awarded article, recognized on June 24, 2026, focuses on how mobile applications on Android, notably those from Meta and Yandex, link trackers present on web pages with user account identifiers. This discovery was made through a joint analysis of the behavior of applications and browsers, complemented by the examination of thousands of websites. The researchers informed the competent regulatory authorities, which led to the initiation of several enforcement actions in different countries. The article will be presented at the 35th USENIX Security Symposium.

The jury also distinguished a second academic article for its quality. This article evaluates the completeness and consistency of the information provided by data controllers in response to access right requests. The study highlights gaps in the information transmitted to data subjects. The authors of this study have made available the data they collected as part of their own access requests.
