The German Bundestag has elected Moritz Hennemann as the new Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI).
He succeeds Louisa Specht-Riemenschneider, who is stepping down for health reasons. She will continue to perform her duties until 30 September 2026. The new commissioner is a professor of civil law specializing in information, media, and internet law, and also serves as director of the Institute for Media and Information Law in Freiburg as well as a judge at the Karlsruhe Court of Appeal.
