The British authority confirms John Edwards' resignation from his position as Information Commissioner

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has confirmed the resignation of its Information Commissioner.

This resignation, submitted to the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), was confirmed on 19 June 2026. The Commissioner had voluntarily stepped down at the end of February to allow an independent internal investigation to take place. The investigation concluded that the facts were established and that his behaviour did not comply with the expected conduct of a public official, with reference to the ICO's Dignity at Work Policy, its Code of Conduct and the Nolan Principles of public life. The ICO's leadership continues to be ensured by its board and executive team to guarantee the continuity of regulatory activities.
