Appointment of Dirk Van Der Kelen as the new Director of the Dispute Chamber of the Belgian Data Protection Authority
The Chamber of Representatives has appointed the new Director of the Dispute Chamber of the Data Protection Authority (DPA), thus completing the authority's management committee.
The new director, a magistrate, took the oath on July 15, 2026, succeeding his predecessor who left office in May 2026. He has a background in law and criminology and has held various judicial positions, including Deputy President of the Privacy Protection Commission, the predecessor body of the DPA, advisor to the Court of Appeal, and President of the Court of First Instance. Within the DPA, he has previously been an external member of the Dispute Chamber and then an expert. This body is responsible for ruling on complaints and imposing possible sanctions.
